Eligibility

Martial arts interest?
If you have an interest in learning taijiquan, you need to learn the fundamentals first. These are taught in the qigong group and the tai chi for health class. Nobody is permitted to jump straight to taijiquan.

Not like karate?
If you have done another martial art previously, you may have some experience and preconceptions. This is fine. But it won't help you to learn an internal martal art. The use of the body is different.

Fundamentals
Tai chi fundamentals include: central equilibrium, composure, connection, form, listening, motor skills, optimal use of alignment and structure, pushing hands, relaxation, rooting, sinking, stance, and whole-body strength.

Qualifying for taijiquan?
Tai chi for health
 or fitness students can ask to undertake the taijiquan syllabus. 

Criteria
1. No medical/health problems 
2. Age (over 18) 
3. Good attitude & humour
4. Weekly attendance
5. Prepared to practice at home between classes
6. Not studying another martial art

Fitness & attitude
We reserve the right to decline martial tuition if we feel that a student is physically unable to study kung fu safely or if an individual demonstrates the wrong attitude for kung fu study.

Appropriateness
Insurance regulations prohibit a student from training material that is unsuitable for their temperament/fitness/ability level. We will always act with the wellbeing of the student in mind.
